Q&A: Steve Sole

How long have you been running?

I started  running five years ago in my mid-40s.

What made you start running?

I started running to lose some weight and feel better in myself. 5k was the original goal, I never dreamed where running would take me or the friends I would make along the way.

Biggest running achievement?

There’s been a few and I couldn’t choose just one. Being awarded KuHAC runners runner of the year and achieving my goal at Chicago marathon were very special to me, but I think the biggest achievement is helping other club members achieve their goal. That has to be the biggest achievement of all. When someone asks how to reach a personal goal whether that be distance or time and they take that advice away and follow it with success - that really hits the spot.

Three things about me:

  1. I like to talk people into running marathons
  2. I have a parkrun spreadsheet and yes it’s complicated
  3. I’m currently having swimming lessons whilst training for my first triathlon.

Favourite Race?

Without a doubt Chicago marathon 2022.

Running goal for 2023?

Just to reach the start line of my planned races injury free and be the best I can be on the day.

Running Tip

Consistency is key and if you want to speed up then slow down!

Trainers

There’s not enough room here to list them all 😂 And my wife will read this, but, in a nutshell

Race day - Adidas adizero pro 3

Day-to-day running, Brooks Ghost or Hoka Cliftons

Trails - Hoka Speedgoat

Favourite food?

Fish and chips with mushy peas washed down by dandelion and burdock 😋

Three celebrities I’d invite to a dinner

Eliud Kipchoge, Liam Gallagher and Tom Hanks

Best thing about being a KUHAC runner?

This is the easiest question of them all, without a doubt the support of others, the comradeship and support amongst the club regardless of ability is without doubt second to none.
